St John's HS wins X Team Tennis Championship

Several teams came from near and far to compete in the first annual World Team Tennis (WTT) East Coast Regional X Team Tennis Championship July 14-15, 2012. WTT and the USTA/DC hosted the event at the East Potomac Tennis and the Washington Kastles Stadium at the Wharf located SW Washington, DC.

The X Team Tennis format features co-ed high school teams competing in three sets - men's and women's singles and mixed doubles. The unique WTT format, which is also played in the Professional League, includes no-ad scoring and coaching. The winning team is the team that wins the most total games! Several teams also enjoyed playing for the championship on the Kastles' stadium court which was graced by Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Leander Paes, Martina Hingis and Sam Querrey. All players were recognized for their outstanding play during the half time show of the Washington Kastles vs Philadelphia Freedom match! In attendance was the legendary Billie Jean King who co-founded World Team Tennis (1974). For more information about WTT, click here.
